Mary Anne Shinault

November 17, 1958 – February 1, 2020

Mary Anne Shinault, 61, passed away at her home in Sheridan on Saturday morning, February 1, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Born November 17, 1958 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Vern Allen and Patricia Mae (Gaston) Ping. After graduating from North Central High School with the Class of 1977, Mary continued her education at Clark College, graduating Cum Laude with the Class of 1979.

For over 26 years Mary was an Assistant Manager at the Beech Grove Walmart. She, along with her sister Becky, also ran a successful daycare service for several years.

Family always came first for Mary. No matter what her boys were involved in growing up, she was there to encourage them. When they grew into young men and started going their own separate ways in life, she was there to support them. Whether the family was celebrating their joys and accomplishments or struggling during tough times, Mary was always there. Her family was her Church. Becoming a grandmother was as equally exciting for her. She may not have appreciated the title at first, but the role was what she lived for. It was her chance to be there for the next generation of her family, watching them grow and supporting them in all their endeavors. Mary’s family also includes many stray cats and dogs that she brought home and adopted over the years, even though she always claimed that she “didn’t like animals.”

Mary enjoyed crafts and knitting, and always seemed to be making something for someone. She also had a very deep appreciation for music. When she had some time to herself, she would always find a reason to be outside. Whether it was camping, gardening, or just puttering around out in the yard, if she could feel the sun on her, she was right where she wanted to be. All that outdoor time paid off this holiday season, as Mary took second place in Sheridan’s town-wide Christmas decoration contest.

Throughout the journey that her family has taken her on, she couldn’t have done it without the love of her life, her husband David, by her side. She and David were married on August 4, 1979.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, David Lane Shinault, Sheridan; her mother, Patricia Mae (Gaston) Ping; her four boys, David L. Shinault, Sheridan, James Andrew Shinault (Lauren), Nashville, Tenn., William CA Shinault (Alison), Sheridan, and Logan Sloan Shinault (Samantha), Oshkosh, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Brendan, Zachary, Grayson, Christopher, Olin, Amelia, Mackensie, Violet, Victoria, Eleanor and Annabelle; one brother, Tom Ping (Mary Beth), Cicero; and three sisters, Becky Paul (Dan), Fishers, Donna McManis (Craig) of Ohio, and Jenny Lamkin, Elwood.

She was preceded in death by her father, Vern Ping; and by her daughter-in-law, Melissa Shinault.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, with visitation from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Mary’s brother, Tom Ping, will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to the Boy Scouts of America, the Band Program at Sheridan Community Schools, or to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation at give.bcrf.org/Marysfight.
