Marie Elizabeth “Betsy” Prickett North

March 3, 1938 – June 28, 2024

Marie Elizabeth “Betsy” Prickett North, 86, Tipton, died on June 28, 2024, at The Waters of Tipton (formerly Miller’s Merry Manor).

She was born on March 3, 1938, east of Arcadia to Marie E. Grim Prickett Overdorf and Kenneth Leroy Prickett. Betsy was baptized at Bethel Lutheran Church on April 9, 1939, by Rev. Mullendore and confirmed also at Bethel Lutheran Church on June 1, 1952, by Rev. lvan H. Miller. She married Paul G. North on July 26, 1963, at Bethel Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Cicero. The couple enjoyed 55 years of marriage together before Paul’s death on April 18, 2018.

Betsy graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1956 and after high school she worked at Pioneer H-Bred International from 1956 to 1990. At the time of her retirement, she was the General Accounts Payable Manager responsible for all payables for all Pioneer Company locations east of the Mississippi River. She also worked at the Sign Shop in Tipton as bookkeeper from 1990 to 1991. Betsy worked at Emanuel Lutheran Church as special projects secretary from 1991 to 2007.

She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church LCMS in Tipton, where she served as secretary to the Board of Directors at the church; both she and Paul were active members. In her spare time Betsy also volunteered her time at Miller’s Merry Manor and at the Tipton Library. Betsy was a previous member of the Women’s Business and Professional Club in Tipton. She also served as secretary for the Tipton Community Fund.

Betsy is survived by her daughter, Paula Irene North Ceplecha and son-in-law Steve Ceplecha and grandson, Elijah Joseph Ceplecha. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul George North and grandson, Levi Thomas Ceplecha.

Funeral services for Betsy will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 8 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tipton with Rev. Robb Roloff presiding. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 7 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home and on Monday from noon until service time at the church.
