Mariann Ann Plautz

July 18, 1940 – June 29, 2024

In loving memory of Mariann A. Plautz, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the age of 83. She lived a rich life and loved her family dearly.

Mariann was born in Shelby County, Iowa, on July 18, 1940. Mariann was born on her grandparents’ farm. She was the daughter of Ivan and Vera (Scott) Woltmann. Mariann was the second oldest of four children. After her father passed away suddenly from meningitis, Mariann took on the responsibility for cooking and caring for her two younger siblings. She graduated from Walnut High School in Walnut, Iowa. Soon after, she met and fell in love with Roy Plautz. They were married at the Trinity Lutheran Church on June 24, 1962, in Avoca, Iowa. Mariann was an incredible mom to Denise and Mike.

She worked as the school secretary and bookkeeper for Hamilton Southeastern Schools for 25 years where she enjoyed working with the amazing administrators, teachers, and students. She loved singing in the church choir, musicals, especially South Pacific and dancing the Polka and Waltz with Roy. Mariann enjoyed joining on “Buick Backpacking” trips, traveling with her family, and making her famous potato salad and strawberry pie for all to enjoy. Her smile lit up the room and she had a way of making you feel special.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, Roy Carl Plautz; sister, JoAnn Audrey Schuemann; brother, Kenneth Woltmann; daughter, Denise; son-in-law, Miles Hercamp; son, Mike; daughter-in-law, Sandy Squillace; eight grandchildren, Joseph Hercamp, Lindsey Hercamp, Tyler Hercamp, Stephanie Ellis, Madison Blank-Plautz, Berit Blank-Plautz, Jackson Bailey, and Cooper Bailey; and four great-grandchildren, Tucker, Lucy, Jeremey, and Aubrey Hercamp. She was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Krohn.

Family, friends, and others are invited to celebrate Mariann’s life on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Cross of Grace Lutheran Church, 3519 S. 600 West, New Palestine, Ind. There will be a visitation from 2 to 4 p.m., a memorial service from 4 to 5 p.m., and then a light dinner in the Fellowship Hall from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
