November 27, 1942 – January 10, 2023
Marian Shuff Barger passed away January 10, 2023. She was born November 27, 1942, in Durham County, N.C., to Gerald M. and Aletha P. Shuff, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, William; their three children, Heather, Jason and Alex; and their four grandchildren, Gabriella (Elle), Emily (Emi), Benjamin (Ben), and Cameron (Cami).
Marian was an avid photographer, gardener, civic leader, and a talented pharmacist. Graduating from the Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy in 1965, Marian served her community as a dedicated retail pharmacist registered in Ohio, New York, and Indiana, a poison control hot line leader, and as a staff pharmacist for retirement homes throughout the state of New York.
Upon retirement, Marian found a passion and talent for photography, and led more than 12 annual photographic safaris to Glacier National Park in Montana. She was an avid gardener, the fragrant and colorful flowerbeds surrounding our home are a reflection of her personal style and green thumb.
Marian was an experienced and committed civic leader. As a past president of the Noblesville Rotary Club, she led the club to redefine itself as an education and scholarship resource for area students. She also was an early champion of the “BrewBQ” annual fundraising event which continues to make an impactful contribution to the community.
There are no funeral arrangements planned at this time. In keeping with Marian’s sense of civic service and her love of many family pets, we ask that in lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Greater Indianapolis Habit for Humanity, 3135 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46208; or to the Hamilton County Humane Society, 10501 Hague Road, Fishers, IN 46038.
Hartley Funeral Home Cicero Chapel is entrusted with her care. You may send condolences at hartleyfuneralhomes.com.
