Margaret “Sue” Stapleton

February 22, 1947 – October 20, 2021

Margaret “Sue” Stapleton, 74, Sheridan, went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2021. She was born in Lebanon, Ky., to the late Joseph and Gertrude (Woodrum) Wethington on February 22, 1947.She attended Zionsville High School, graduating with the Class of 1967.

Charlie said after their first date together he told Sue he was going to marry her, and on September 20, 1969, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Zionsville the two of them were married. They have been at each other’s side for the last 52 years.

Later in life, Sue dedicated herself to being a housekeeper for Hoosier village. She attended Six Points Wesleyan Church, and she was known for her love of God and her family. Sue was an Elvis fan and loved listening to his music and watching his movies. She enjoyed caring for animals and could be found feeding them every chance she got. Sue was also an avid reader. She could always be found reading a book or working a word search. She loved to bake, and her family and friends looked forward to eating what she would bake; but they will miss what she was known for preparing, and that was her famous banana pudding.

One thing Sue and Charlie enjoyed doing together was traveling, and the two of them looked forward to their annual trips to Memphis, Tenn., with an occasional stop at Graceland. She also looked forward to going to festivals with her family. At the vendor’s booths, she would not leave anything unturned, and she would never pass on a garage sale – you never know what treasures you might find.

Sue will be missed by her family and friends. She will always be known for her kind and caring manner. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 52 years, Charles “Charlie” Stapleton; loving son and daughter, Charles Michael “Chuck” (Jamie) Stapleton and Laura Marie (Brian) Robbins; brother, Donald Wethington; and sisters, Rosie Wethington and Louise Eaton. Sue was a proud and loving grandmother to Kayla (Juan) Villasis, Justin Phillips, Charles Riley, and Isabella Stapleton, and her extended grandchildren, Dakotah (Caitlin) Robbins, Glen Robbins, Will (Paige) Robbins and a great-grandmother to Paxton.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Wethington and Gertrude (Woodrum) Wethington; and her brothers, Hurley Gene Wethington, Marvin Wethington, and Ted Wethington.

Sue’s calling will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Sheridan Six Points Wesleyan Church, 1545 W. 226th St., Sheridan. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021, at Sheridan Six Points Wesleyan Church. Pastor George Cooper will be officiating Sue’s service. Burial will follow at Crown View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stapleton Memorial Scholarship Fund at First Farmer Bank and Trust, 2400 State Road 38, Sheridan, IN 46069.
