On Tuesday at The Ritz Charles in Carmel, Mayor Jim Brainard and challenger Fred Glynn debated publicly about the future of Carmel and their visions as Mayor. The event was sponsored by the Current in Carmel and moderated by Managing Editor Ann Marie Shambaugh.
The candidates answered questions about a variety of topics, some submitted by members of the community. The event was well attended and open to the public.
Glynn, a two-term Hamilton County Council member, discussed Carmel’s debt and how it will be the biggest challenge for the next mayor and the importance not to leave debt for our children or grandchildren.
Brainard spoke about his administration’s accomplishments over the last several years including Carmel being home to 126 corporate headquarters that provide high-paying jobs and a large tax base. He also spoke about Carmel being in the top 25 percent of bond ratings in the country, having over 1,000 acres of park land, a District Tax Rate that is the fifth lowest of 118 cities in Indiana and the lowest of all the cities in Hamilton County, and strong public safety with both accredited police and fire departments.
