Lucas Letsinger, Hamilton Heights senior, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball for Indiana University Kokomo this fall. IU Kokomo is a member of the River States Conference and a NAIA athletic institution. He is the son of Bob and Nikki Letsinger.
Letsinger, a multi-sport athlete (baseball and basketball) and member of the Arcadia Christian Church who was named All-Conference Honorable Mention in basketball, has loved, and played baseball for as far back as he can remember. In fact, he has played year-round since the age of 8 and considered a valuable member of his teams for which he plays.
Letsinger plans to pursue a double major in business and sports management while taking his baseball game to the collegiate level. He chose IU Kokomo because it offers a strong curriculum in his area of study, a competitive men’s baseball program, great coaches, and location close to home.
He credits his coaches and teammates as being a major influence in his development as a student athlete over the years but says it is his dad who has had the biggest impact. “He has pushed me to be who I am and always there for me,” said Letsinger. “I am also deeply appreciative of everyone who has helped me along the way to be the person and player I am today.
“I’m excited for Lucas who has earned a great opportunity at the next level of baseball,” said Coach Ryan Van Oeveren, Hamilton Heights Boys Baseball. “He is a fine young man who has worked hard for this chance to continue to grow as a person and continue to play the game he loves.”
“Lucas has been a pleasure to watch develop in both baseball and basketball over the course of the past four years,” said Kurt Ogden, Hamilton Heights High School Athletic Director. “He is a true testament to what hard work, patience, and sacrifice can get you if you’re willing to persevere. We are very proud of Lucas and we wish him the best as he continues his baseball career at Indiana University Kokomo.”
