Lowest turkey prices since Roosevelt era

After the spike in turkey prices around Thanksgiving last year, consumers can feel at ease with turkey prices dropping ahead of the 2023 holiday. Retailers across Indiana, including “one-stop shopping” pioneer Meijer, with 42 stores in the state, are preparing for the shopping surge.

Locally, those stores include:

  • Fishers: 8375 E. 96th St.
  • Carmel: 1424 W. Carmel Drive
  • Westfield: 225 W. Spring Mill Pointe Drive
  • Noblesville: 17000 Mercantile Blvd.

This year Meijer anticipates selling more than 1 million turkeys – which is the equivalent to 520 truckloads – with prices at the lowest they’ve been since the 1930s, coming in at only 59 cents per pound. This supports the retailer’s focus for making it easier for families to enjoy the Thanksgiving feast without breaking the bank.

“Meijer is working hard to bring more value to our customers this holiday season, including through our recently updated mPerks program,” Meijer Store Director Chad Clark told The Reporter. “We want to ensure our prices are competitive, and that customers know they can find the greatest value and convenience both in our stores and through our app.”

Other turkey options at Meijer include the following:

  • Meijer brand frozen turkey at 59 cents per pound
  • Honeysuckle White brand frozen turkey at $1.09 per pound
  • Meijer brand fresh turkey at $1.19 per pound
  • Butterball brand frozen turkey at $1.29 per pound
  • Butterball fresh turkey at $1.99 per pound
  • True Goodness by Meijer brand frozen antibiotic free turkey at $2.19 per pound

Fresh turkeys will be delivered daily, beginning the week of Nov. 12. All Meijer brand turkeys will be limited to one per customer.
