The Sheridan Historical Society is busy building a display honoring the Bud Wright football era at the Sheridan Community Schools. Wright, famous for winning nine football state championships during his tenure at Sheridan, is the “winningest” football coach in Indiana history, and he will be honored in a prominent display. It is estimated the display will be open for public viewing by next spring.

One problem, however, is that Coach Wright is still coaching the team and a final display may be years away. The museum thanks the individuals and former players who have contributed to and continue to support the museum’s efforts to honor Coach Wright and his championship teams.

Football is not the only sport to be honored at the museum. Back in the 1950s, Coach Larry Hobbs had an outstanding series of basketball teams and there is a great display of their triumphs in the museum. While they maybe a bit older than Bud’s Boys, there are still a lot of Hobbs players around as well as a large number of Hobbs era cheerleaders, too. For the past several years, the Hobbs players and cheerleaders have celebrated with an annual luncheon reunion each May. If you are one of these special Hobbs people and would like to attend the reunion, please contact the museum at (317) 758-5054 for further information.

The revitalized Sheridan Historical Society Museum is located at 315 S. Main St., Sheridan. The museum is open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday afternoons, and the museum and/or the Boxley Cabin in Veterans Park can be open by special arrangement by calling (317) 758-5054.
