Logan Fakes, Hamilton Heights’ senior, has committed to play soccer for the Huntington University Foresters this fall. Huntington University is a member of the Crossroads League. He is the son of Dana Nakanishi and Kelle Fakes.
“Huntington University was different from the other campuses I visited,” recalls Logan Fakes of this private Christian post-secondary institution. “Everyone was welcoming, they have a strong program in the area I want to major, and a very competitive men’s soccer team. Huntington offered me everything I could want academically, the opportunity to play soccer, and a scholarship.”
Fakes, a multi-sport athlete who has earned four varsity letters in each soccer and swimming, helped take his soccer team to a sectional championship, named all four years as a North/South All Star in soccer, served as a captain for the boys swim team, received the Dedication Award for Swimming, received the Matt Cahill Leadership Award in Soccer, and received an All-Conference Honorable Mention for swimming.
He has played soccer for more than a decade, attending college camps and ID camps to give college coaches a glimpse of what he could bring to their program. He credits his mother who has been his biggest fan for her support as well as his coaches who helped him to develop his skill, technique, and mental fortitude.
“We are very excited for Logan to continue his soccer career at Huntington University,” said Kurt Ogden, Hamilton Heights athletic director. “Logan has been a great role model as an athlete at Hamilton Heights and we will miss his leadership on and off the field. Huntington University is getting a fine young man to be a part of their soccer program.”
Hamilton Heights head soccer coach Derrick Dean said Logan is a great player with tremendous knowledge of the game. “He is a four-year varsity player the team really looked up to during his career with the Huskies,” noted Coach Dean. “He will greatly be missed but I can’t wait to see what he does in college!”
“We are excited to welcome Logan to the Foresters,” said Russ Lawson, Huntington University soccer coach. “With his high school and club experience, I believe we will see a smooth transition to college level play. His ability to play the left side will bring a unique versatility to our program.”
“I am excited to see what God has in store for my future,” added Fakes, who plans to study sports management and pre-law at Huntington. When he is not in the classroom, on the field or in the water, he serves as a greeter at Thrive Christian Church, volunteers in the nursery at church, and is a member of the Hamilton Heights chapter of the Business Professionals of America (BPA) and Key Clubs.
