February 26, 1945 – April 6, 2025
Linda Sue Whitecotton, born on February 26, 1945, in Flint, Mich., was called home on April 6, 2025.
Her life was a testament to the power of love, compassion, and creativity. At the heart of Linda’s story was her extraordinary 50-year marriage to her beloved late husband, Robert Whitecotton, whom she married on June 3, 1963. Their captivating love story was one of love at first sight, one that started with a sense of rebellion but flourished into a love story that continued to inspire and touch all who knew them.
Linda was a spirited, compassionate, and thoughtful woman who dedicated her life to nurturing her family and spreading joy wherever she went. She took immense pride in being a mother, grandma, and Grammy, and her greatest joy was watching her family grow. She was a proud retiree from Western Electric, where she spent the majority of her career, along with working at Harry Levinson and the Marriott.
Her hobbies were a reflection of her creative and supportive nature. She had a gift for crafts, and her beautiful gardening and landscaping were so stunning that people would drive by to admire her work. Linda enjoyed cooking for her family, playing cards with friends, playing bingo and going to the casino. She was a devoted fan of country music, especially Conway Twitty. Her annual vacations to Gatlinburg were eagerly anticipated, and her collections of angels and hearts spoke volumes about her tender, loving spirit. As the saying goes, “All because two people fell in love,” and Linda embodied this through her unwavering love for her family and commitment to her marriage.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Lacy (Jeff) McGrew; grandsons, Tyler (Taylor) McGrew and Evan McGrew (Zoe Hodgden); granddaughter, Jenna Hensley (Adam); and her great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Espen, and Brooks McGrew, and Natalya Hensley. She also had one nephew and four nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Joseph and Mary Lou Lucas; and her brother, Leroy Lucas.
Visitation for Linda will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Hartley Funeral Homes in Cicero, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m.
In memory of Linda, we encourage those who knew her to share their memories and upload photos to her memorial page, to celebrate a life so beautifully lived and a woman so deeply loved.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to HOPE Family Care in Cicero.
