Linda Diane (Freeland) Wheat, 63, Noblesville lost her battle to dermatomyositis on March 5, 2019. Linda was born to Robert James and Ruth Anne (Moore) Freeland.
Linda loved her involvement with the U.S. military. She was raised as an “Army brat,” being born in Alaska on June 18, 1955, and lived in many locations including Germany, Texas and Kentucky. Linda graduated from Hamilton Heights in 1974.
Linda became an Air Force wife and lived in several other locations including California, Guam and South Carolina. Linda was involved in Boy Scouts of America; she supported her two sons to reach rank of Eagle Scout. She participated in the Crossroads of America Scout Band. Linda earned the Silver Beaver Award which is a high scouting award for adults. Linda also volunteered at the Senior Citizen Services in Noblesville and as a Chaplain for the American Legion post in Pendleton.
Linda was very proud of her three children who all served or are currently serving in the U.S. military, Major Larry Lee Wheat II (Katie), currently of San Antonio, Texas; Laura Nichole Penley (Jeff Sochowicz), Indianapolis; and Lewis Edward Wheat (Debbie), McCordsville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tara Grigg, Jhia-Vhonnii and Mara Wheat, Seaman Trey Penley, Maryssa and Leanne Penley, Victoria and Natasha Wheat; her father, Robert Freeland (Rachel), Pendleton; siblings, Roberta Starrett, Noblesville; Robert Freeland Jr. (Jodie), Sheridan; and Frances (Fran) Miller (Larry), Thorntown; and several nieces and nephews.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Anne Freeland; granddaughter, Abigale Renee Wheat; and two nieces, Rebecca and Misti Starrett.
Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2019 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, Noblesville, with Brother Jim Williamson officiating. Visitation will be held from noon to the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan.
