Noblesville’s smallest city park will shine this winter as Lights Over Seminary begins Friday, Dec. 7 with a lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. This is a collaboration between the city and Noblesville Preservation Alliance, Main Street, Nickel Plate Arts and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. Lights Over Seminary is powered by Duke Energy.
“Lights Over Seminary is a walkable, holiday lights display in Seminary Park that will focus on history. Vintage decorations used by the city in the past have been restored for display and will help brighten the night once again,” Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear said. “The display also includes a picturesque Noblesville sign, additional lighting and nine themed Christmas trees.”
The lights will be turned on for the first time at 6 p.m. Friday. The ceremony will include carolers (5 to 6 p.m.), a brass quintet (6 to 7 p.m.) and live music (7 to 8 p.m.), along with free hot chocolate throughout the evening. Noblesville Preservation Alliance will have a booth on the history of Seminary Park and will be selling Christmas Home Tour tickets for its Dec. 8 event. Lights Over Seminary is one of multiple trolley stops that evening as part of First Friday. Other stops include Federal Hill Commons, Nickle Plate Arts, Hamilton County Artists Association and the downtown square.
“Seminary Park is a beloved asset in Noblesville, and it is wonderful to have the chance to shine a spotlight on that park, while also celebrating holiday traditions by revitalizing Noblesville’s vintage lights,” said Nickel Plate Arts Executive Director Aili McGill. “This opens up some marvelous opportunities for the arts community, and we can’t wait to help get this project moving.”
Lights Over Seminary serves as a new program to highlight the neighborhood park, three blocks south of downtown on 10th Street, and lead into future upgrades.
“A walking Christmas lights tour will be such a magical addition to our downtown, giving our community a chance to get outside and create memories together,” said Lorna Steele, Noblesville Main Street executive director. “Seminary Park is definitely an underutilized gem, so it is perfect that it will get a little extra love this holiday season.”
Lights Over Seminary will run 5 to 11 p.m. nightly through December and is free to attend.
