Alcoholic beverages will not be allowed on county property
The Hamilton County Commissioners remind the public that alcoholic beverages will not be allowed on county property for the Lighting of the Square on Saturday, Nov. 30.
Although the City of Noblesville recently passed a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) ordinance, which allows individuals aged 21 and older to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating businesses and carry them outside within the designated area, the boundaries of the DORA do not include county-owned property.
“The Lighting of the Square is a time for families to come together and celebrate the season,” County Commissioner Steve Dillinger said. “We want to make sure the event stays welcoming and safe for all ages. It’s important that we keep the focus on the holiday spirit and maintain a family-friendly atmosphere.”
It is illegal to consume alcohol on county property, including the Judicial Center, the Old Courthouse, and the county parking garage. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office will have a presence at the Lighting of the Square. Anyone caught drinking on county property could face a $100 fine for the first offense and a $500 fine for the second.
