If you are looking for customized home décor to help cherish life’s special moments, look no further than Legacy Images in Sheridan. Legacy Images is the newest business to open a storefront in the community’s quaint downtown business district. This family-owned and operated business specializes in customized engraved picture frames and gifts.

While Legacy Images officially opened its South Main Street location at the end of October, the business has been crafting and selling specialty wall and home décor for the better part of 15 years. It’s inspiration for what would become Legacy Images well before that.

Owner Paul Catlin, a gifted craftsman who taught Graphic Arts at Frankfort High School for 24 years and Industrial Technology at Frankfort Middle School for seven years, had the opportunity to be involved in a business that created custom products. Through a strange twist of events, Catlin fell into the laser engraving business that would ultimately be named Legacy Images and involve some of the family including son Todd and daughter Cara, who manages the business, as well as Catlin’s wife, Jane, and Cara’s two children, Ian and Erich, on occasion. There are also three other part-time employees.

The business operated out of Catlin’s barn in rural Westfield. With an eye for design and proficiency with the computer, the business grew. Over the years, the family talked about a new location. After selling their property near Westfield, Catlin found the spacious building in downtown Sheridan and moved the business. The inside of the building was refurbished using some of the wood siding from the barn the company had operated from for so many years and space was created to make room for other artisans to sell their handcrafted and unique products from poured canvas, pottery and paracord jewelry to name a few.

“Transitioning from a homebased business to having a retail storefront has been exciting,” said Cara Retz, who initially wanted to become a teacher. “It’s been fun to meet people in the community as well as those who travel in from around the state to have us create a customized item.”
