Denim & Lace

Sheridan Youth Assistance Program’s (SYAP) annual fundraiser, Denim and Lace, was held on Sept. 16 at the Lindley Farmstead, and it was a big success. The fundraiser was a fun evening of dinner, auction items, music and more – all with the purpose of raising money for SYAP.

A total of 260 supporters attended the sold-out event, including special guest Congresswoman Victoria Spartz. The event brought in $27,000 for SYAP.

If you missed it this year, you are invited to watch this video that tells the story of one client family and the impact of SYAP in their lives.

Career Exploration Days

In the past, SYAP has held a large annual career fair for area students. This year, SYAP is taking a new, more focused approach to inform middle school and high school students about local careers that are available after high school.

SYAP is holding four Career Exploration Days for Sheridan students in grades 7 through 12. Each Exploration Day focuses on a different job sector.

The first Career Exploration Day was about careers in construction, and nine local businesses and training programs came to set up displays and talk to students about all types of jobs in the construction industry. Students enjoyed engaging with representatives at each display, and learning about trades and apprenticeships, programs at Ivy Tech Community College, Army careers, and some paused to try on safety gear or use a power drill with ABC Prep Academy.

The next Career Exploration Day will focus on manufacturing careers followed by a health careers day in February and service careers in March.

If your business or organization would like to take part in a future career day, please call Beth Sabelhaus at (317) 758-4431 ext. 4460 or email esabelhaus@sheridan.k12.in.us.

Holiday Assistance donations needed

Each year SYAP partners with local organizations to assist families in need during the holiday season.

SYAP partners with Good Samaritan Network for Thanksgiving food boxes and with MAMA’s Cupboard and Sheridan First United Methodist Church for December holiday assistance, including Christmas gifts for families and Meijer food gift cards.

So far, 118 households in the community have reached out for assistance. If you or your organization would like to donate towards holiday assistance or sponsor a family, click here or call Lisa Samuels at (317) 758-4431 ext. 4400 or email lsamuels@sheridan.k12.in.us.

Thank you for your generosity to ensure every family in the Sheridan community has a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season.
