Larry R Mohr

February 22, 1939 – June 26, 2021

Larry R Mohr joined God in heaven on June 26, 2021. He was 82 years old. Born on February 22, 1939, in Beech Grove, Ind., to the late Wallace and Viola Mohr, he was the younger and cherished brother to the late Donna Brown (Mohr).

Larry was happily married to the love of his life, high school sweetheart, and “Mommy Dog,” Marjorie Mohr, for 63 years, who survives him today. Marjorie was his best friend, and they were each other’s rocks. Nothing brought Larry greater love, happiness, and fulfillment than his family. Larry was the proud father to Michael and Gregory Mohr, father-in-law to Viven Mohr and Nancy Mohr, grandfather and “PaPal” to Matthew Mohr, Nicholas Mohr, Annie Mohr Parmacek, Alex Parmacek, Amanda Duke, Matthew Duke, Jaclyn Mohr, and his three beautiful great-grandchildren, Ella Collier, Abby Collier, Liam Duke, and the late Isabella Collier.

Larry’s journey through life was unprecedented. Larry was a three-sport varsity athlete in high school. After school he started his career selling encyclopedias door-to-door. Larry quickly ascended to levels unimaginable, leaving behind an everlasting footprint with every giant leap that he took. Larry came to be the youngest Chairman of the State Board of tax Commissions of the State of Indiana, member of the Indiana Toll Road Commission, and eventually the Executive Director of the Indiana Electric Association (IEA). Larry was a two-time recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash – one of the highest honors granted in the State of Indiana – for his distinguished service to the State and to the Governor. Larry also was honored as a Kentucky Colonel, an award recognizing an individual’s noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to the community, state, and nation. Larry passionately raised German Shepherd dogs, showing three of the top German Shepherds across the country; he also had a true passion for his standard-bred racing horses. Despite all of his accomplishments, Larry considered his greatest success in life to be his family.

Larry had a positive impact on everyone that he crossed paths with. He was the first person to help others in time of need, whether he knew someone personally or not, and he took great pride in doing it behind the scenes without receiving any recognition. Larry was a man blessed with a sharp, quick-minded, and innovative brain coupled with the heart of a lion, a combination that he would leverage to make an everlasting positive impact on his community. Larry will be especially remembered by all who knew him for his compassion, humility, sense of humor, wisdom, and selflessness.

Words do not do justice for describing the type of person that Larry Mohr was. There are endless stories of his good deeds, successes, and accomplishments. For someone who fought to earn so much, Larry always wanted to give. He always wanted to help. He always wanted to share. He always wanted to love. “You never knew Larry was there, but wherever you went, he always had left his footprint.”

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 10655 Haverstick Road, Carmel, IN 46033; or to Joy’s House, 2028 E. Broad Ripple Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46220.

A celebration of Larry’s life has been scheduled for Friday, July 2, 2021, which will begin with a visitation at 9:15 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, eulogy at 10:15 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. The family welcomes you to join them after the service for a luncheon at the church.
