Larry Karl Hume

April 2, 1942 – March 10, 2020

Larry Karl Hume, 77, a lifelong resident of Sheridan, passed away on March 10, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born on April 2, 1942 to the late Ivan Coble Hume and Gladys A. (Robey) Hume in Lebanon. Larry was a graduate of Sheridan High School’s Class of 1960. Larry traveled out to California for a short stay after graduation, and upon return to Indiana joined the U.S. Army, serving 1961 to 1964. After serving, he returned home to Sheridan, where he met and married Lynn Purdy, who preceded him in death. They were married on March 20, 1966 and had been at each other’s side for 53 years.

Larry retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years of service in 2003.

Larry is survived by his three children, Perry (Cheri) Hume, Lana Hume and Tina (Brett) Tillison. Larry loved visiting and playing with grandchildren and great grandchildren. He looked forward to each visit. Larry was a proud Pappaw to Brent (Lee) Hume, Kya Marsh, Tyler Hume, Shey Tillison and Jed Tillison. He is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Harrison, Lincoln and Peyton Hume. Larry was a loving brother to Ivalou Mary Hume Gray, who preceded him in death.

Larry enjoyed woodworking with remarkable ingenuity. He enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball teams throughout his youth, along with coaching his daughter’s softball teams. His main pleasure was spectating his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved and cared for his family with great pride. Larry touched many lives with his kindness and sense of fun. He brought immeasurable joy with his creativity and orneriness. In his latter years, his favorite pastime was sitting on his deck, drinking coffee, watching the birds and visiting with family and friends.

A Celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Fisher Family Funeral Services, where family and friends are invited to gather from 5 p.m. till time of services.
