Hamilton Heights has hired Jon Kirschner as its new head football coach for the Huskies. Kirschner received the vote of approval at the Wednesday morning meeting of the Hamilton Heights Board of Education.
Kirschner was among several qualified candidates considered and interviewed to replace Mitch Street who resigned as coach in January. Street, who remains as Dean of Students, brought Heights three conference championships, a state runner-up title and a total of six winning seasons during his seven-year tenure as head coach. His overall career coaching record ended at 54-27.
The 31-year old Kirschner has a been U.S. History teacher at Hamilton Heights High School for four years and coaching for a decade. He has spent the past four seasons as an assistant with the Husky football program, is the Special Teams Coordinator, and has coached offensive line, defensive line and linebackers. In addition, he serves as the Husky Sports Performance Coordinator, Junior Class Sponsor, and is a member of the National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA).
“I am excited and blessed to have the opportunity to lead the Husky Football Program,” said Jon Kirschner, who is inheriting a program with a very rich history and strong tradition in football. “My goal is to keep that tradition alive and well through hard work, perseverance, and tough-nosed football. I want to thank my wife Brittany for her support of my taking on this new endeavor. I also want to thank the administration for the opportunity to lead the Huskies into a bright future building on past traditions of winning and success in life. My vision for this program is the development of winners on the field, in the classroom, and the greater Husky Community! I am ready to get this season rolling!!”
“We are excited for Jon to take the reins of the Huskies football program,” said Kurt Ogden, Hamilton Heights Athletic Director. “Jon has already established himself within the school and community, he knows the culture, the kind of kid(s) we have, and relates extremely well to every athlete in the building. The positive changes he has made with strength and conditioning and the excitement and buy-in he has generated with students from all athletic programs at Heights who are in the weight room voluntarily has been phenomenal. He is extremely passionate about Heights and we are excited to see the positive effects Jon will continue to have on the football program and all other athletic programs here.”
Kirschner resides in northern Hamilton County with his wife Brittany and their two-year old son, Owen.
