Kentucky man arrested in Hamilton County gets felony drug charge

A Kentucky man was arrested by the Indiana State Police after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a stolen gun and several drugs.

Zachary Peters, 24, Crestwood, Ky., was allegedly driving 96 miles per hour in a 70 miles per hour zone on Interstate 69 near the Hamilton/Madison county line. Trooper Josh Thayer made the stop. During Thayer’s interaction with Peters, marijuana, cocaine, a controlled substance (pills), a stolen gun and drug paraphernalia were located in the vehicle.

Peters was arrested and transported to the Hamilton County Jail.

Upon review of Trooper Thayer’s probable cause affidavit, the Hamilton County Prosecutor filed formal charges, which include the following:

  • Possession of Cocaine – Level 4 Felony
  • Carrying a Handgun without a License – Class A Misdemeanor
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – Class A Misdemeanor
  • Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor
  • Possession of Paraphernalia – Class C Misdemeanor
  • Disobeying a Declaration of Disaster Emergency – Class B Misdemeanor

All suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
