Hamilton County Surveyor Kenton Ward was recently awarded both the 2024 Excellence in Floodplain Management Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indiana Association for Floodplain and Stormwater Management (INAFSM).

The presentation of the awards took place during the INAFSM annual conference in Michigan City.

Ward received the Excellence in Floodplain Management Award for his initiation of the long-standing Hamilton County floodplain protections and for his being resolute in maintaining those protections over the years since the policy was put in place. His policies have been adopted by several counties, cities, and towns throughout Indiana. Ward is recognized as a leader in floodplain management in Indiana.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Ward in recognition of his tireless efforts in stormwater and floodplain management over his 48 years of service as County Surveyor. He has been a leader in his profession and has been recognized as such by many organizations, fellow County Surveyors, and state and local officials. He has been a mentor to others in his profession and is often sought out by others from around the state for advice and information.

Ward has previously been recognized by INAFSM with the Excellence in Stormwater Management Award and the Special Recognition Award for his 12 years of service as the Legislative Liaison for the association. Under his leadership, the Surveyor’s Office has been recognized with awards from INASFM for several Outstanding Projects including Cool Creek Watershed Management Plan, Sand Creek and Cumberland Road Flood Mitigation Project, and the Symons – Krause Regulated Drain Project.
