Katherine Marie Wukmer Bunderle

August 1, 1958 – September 22, 2017

Katherine Marie Wukmer Bunderle, 59, Unionville, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at IU Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis. She was born on August 1, 1958 to the late Jack and Betty (Hastings) Norvell in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Katherine worked alongside her husband as a buyer for Nature’s Pharm. She also worked as a Librarian for Carmel Clay School System and as a Certified Medical Assistant for Dr. David Bolin. She lived in Carmel for 26 years before moving to Unionville, near Bloomington. Katherine (Kat) was an avid hiker who loved traveling, bird watching and listening to music. Anyone that knew Kat agrees that she is one of the kindest, most selfless people they have ever known. Her infectious smile, laughter and sense of humor lit up the room wherever she went. She was an amazing mother and grandmother. Kat and her husband, Dan, were inseparable and known to all to be true soulmates.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel R. Bunderle; sons, M. Alexander (Gina) Wukmer and Lucas A. Wukmer; brother, Lawrence (Gail) Norvell; sister, Jeanne (Don) Wesley; step-daughter, Dana J. (Matt) Allen; and two step-grandchildren, Jackson and Evie.

The entire staff at the IU Simon Cancer Center became family. The battle Kat fought against leukemia was long, but she was blessed to get an incredible extra year thanks to the bone marrow stem cell donation of her sister, Jeanne, the 24/7 care of her husband, Dan, and the IU Simon staff.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, Noblesville, with visitation from noon to the time of service. Pastor Stacee Gehring will officiate. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow immediately at Cool Creek Park in Carmel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Indiana Chapter, 9075 N. Meridian St. Suite 150, Indianapolis, IN 46260; or any inner-city youth program, such as Hawthorne Community Center, Starfish, or Concord Center.
