September 22, 1953 – May 14, 2020
Karen Olinger, 66 years of age, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at her home. She was born September 22, 1953 in Indianapolis to the late John and Frances Collins. She was a middle child of four; two siblings preceded her in death.
Karen devoted her life to her daughter, Jill, building her home in Westfield. She had several careers throughout the years – a daycare provider, a seamstress and finally a school bus driver for Westfield Washington Schools in order to be closer to her daughter.
That’s when Karen’s love for the high school football team began. She attended every game she could since 1992, cheering from the stands, and was often found writing inspiring messages with cups on the fences at the practice and game fields. Her most memorable years were when her nephew, Evan Harlan, joined the football team in 2011 which enabled Karen to have a more hands-on role with the team. Working closely with Coach Gilbert gave her a real purpose and fulfilled her need to care for others. Coach Gilbert organized her “adopting” a player each year since 2015. Karen loved wearing their number and cheering loudly with her cowbells.
She was a loving and caring person, devoted mother and friend, always thinking of others first.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Jill Olinger; brother, Ron Collins; and many extended family and close friends.
In observance of safe social distancing due to the coronavirus pandemic, there will be a private service held at Randall and Roberts Funeral Home in Noblesville.
The family is asking, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Karen may be made to the Westfield Athletic Booster Club, P.O. Box 495, Westfield, IN 46074.
