K-Town Elite Track, Central Indiana’s only USA Track-and-Field Club, is accepting new members throughout Indiana for the Summer Track-and-Field season beginning with the Chick-fil-A Youth Track-and-Field Meet, Saturday May 26 at Noblesville West Middle School and ending with the USA Track-and-Field National Junior Olympics to be held at North Carolina A&T University, July 23-20.
Club members will compete in three Indiana Youth Track Association meets (held at Hamilton County athletic facilities) leading to JO competition June 16-17 and July 5-8 at Ball State University.
Determined by year of birth, there are six USATF age groups for boys and girls: 8 & under; 9-10; 11-12; 13-14; 15-16; and 17-18.Since its conception four years ago, K-Town had many athletes compete in the national Junior Olympics’ competition and one athlete, Tionna Brown, won three national titles.
“From our six-year-old athletes to our high-school athletes to our collegiate athletes wanting to enhance their performances, we all strive on four aspects in this sport: Fast, relax, pretty, smoove. If we can consistently accomplish those traits and habits, we will all improve and continue winning,” said Club Coach K.O. Jackson.
The Club’s focus is on the jumps, hurdles, relays and sprints – up to 800 meters. The events are coached by K.O. Jackson, a USATF Level II coach in the sprints, jumps and hurdles and a USATF Level I instructor. He recently completed work to become a USATF Level III coach and IAAF Level 4 coach: the highest certifications for both organizations. In Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio, Jackson has coached numerous state-meet participants; three state champions; a three-time JO national champion and 58 athletes who have competed for him have received NCAA Division I/NAIA scholarships.
There will be an information meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23 at Kokomo’s Jackson Morrow Park for new members to address the registration process, code of conduct, parent/guardian information forms, travel-release forms, and a copy of the athlete’s birth certificate. New high-school members can begin after their high-school season concludes.
Training sessions are $10 each and the Club trains three to five times a week. There is also a $75 sign-up fee for new members.
