Central Indiana’s only USA Track-and-Field Club, K-Town Elite Track is accepting new members throughout Indiana for its’ fall training season beginning Labor Day, Monday, September 4, at 4:30 p.m. at Jackson Morrow Park.
K-Town Elite is also opened to home-schooled students.
Determined by year of birth, there are six USATF age groups for boys and girls: 8 & under; 9-10; 11-12; 13-14; 15-16; and 17-18.
New-and-old members should come dressed to train. There will be a short meeting for new members addressing the registration process, code of conduct, parent/guardian information forms, and travel-release forms.
There is a $75 yearly Club registration fee. Practice sessions’ cost are typically $10 a session. The club’s scheduled practices are Thursday, Saturday and Sunday; however, other days can be added to accommodate each athletes’ schedule.
Since its conception three years ago, K-Town Elite had many athletes compete in the USATF Junior Olympics: Kokomo High School sophomore Tionna Brown has won three national titles. This summer, Northwestern High School freshman Makala Pfefferkorn was a National meet qualifier.
The Club’s focus is on the jumps, hurdles, relays, sprints and distances up to 3200 meters. The events are coached by K.O. Jackson, a USATF Level II coach in the sprints, jumps and hurdles and a USATF Level I instructor. He is currently completing work to become a USATF Level III coach and IAAF Level 4 coach: the highest certifications for both organizations. In Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio, Jackson has coached numerous state-meet participants; three state champions; a three-time Junior Olympics national champion and 58 athletes who have competed for him have received NCAA Division I/NAIA scholarships.
