The Carmel junior varsity Blue baseball team defeated Pike by 23-0 on Tuesday.
Sophomores Michael Uhrig and Chris Grzeskowiak combined on mound to strike out 10 and allow only two hits in five innings. The Greyhounds were led offensively by sophomore Garrett Drake with two hits and three RBIs, sophomore Hunter Keip with a grand slam and six RBIs, and freshman J.D. Rogers with a double and three RBIs.
The JV Blue Hounds’ record in now 4-3 and 2-1 in the Metropolitan Conference.
The Fishers freshman team fell to Brownsburg 19-3 in six innings on Wednesday in what started as a competitive game through five innings.The Bulldogs struck first in the bottom of the first when they reached base on an error. Brownsburg took advantage of the extra out hitting a two-run home run in the inning.
Fishers answered back in the top of the third with back to back doubles by Bobby Fox and Matt Bryant, in which Bryant’s double scored Fox. Bryant then scored off of a Collin Hardwick bunt. Brownsburg answered back with one run in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead after three innings.
The score remained 3-2 into the bottom of the fifth when Brownsburg added three runs to make it 6-2 heading into the sixth. Fishers loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth with consecutive walks by Grant Moritz, Evan Carmona, and Mason Sweeney. Noah Weathers then plated Moritz with a single.
Brownsburg ended the game in the sixth scoring 13 runs. Fishers struggled both on defense, committing six errors and with base running, getting picked off five times in the game.
Jack Braun started on the mound for the Tigers striking out seven and walking one while going five innings.
Carmona led the Tigers with two hits on the night.
