Joyce Ann Ellison (Moles), 67, Indianapolis, currently living in Cicero, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2023, after fighting a three-month illness due to sepsis. She was born on July 21, 1956, in Indianapolis to Kenneth E. and Helen M. Moles (Nichols).
She grew up in the Indianapolis area and graduated from Emmerich Manual High School, Class of 1974. She married her forever husband in 2003, Robin Ellison. They just celebrated their 20th anniversary in April.
Joyce was a hard worker and dedicated woman, working multiple jobs throughout her life to provide and give a wonderful home to her children. She cared deeply for her family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and especially her pets. When she wasn’t working you could find her in her garden. Her nurturing ways went beyond helping her family and friends, you could see it in her yard and garden.
She was the rock to her family. Joyce always thought of everything in detail, she put others first and always had a listening ear. She had several titles in her lifespan: Daughter, Sister, Mom, Wife, Best Friend, Friend, Joyce, but her favorite nickname of all was Meme. She would introduce herself at times as Meme. She loved being a mother but especially a grandmother to her five grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother, and Meme.
Joyce was preceded in death by her mother, Helen M. Moles, and her father, Kenneth E. Moles. Surviving her is her husband, Robin Ellison; sons, Brian (Mitzi) Underwood and Kyle Underwood; daughter, Amy (Chris) Burcham; granddaughters, Sierra (Tyler) Schmitt and Sabrina Underwood; grandsons, Gus Hartwig, Gunnar Hartwig, and Deiter Hartwig; brother, Jim (Judy) Moles (Greenwood, Ind.); sisters, Jenny Young (Franklin, Ind.) and Sherry Tatlock (Edinburgh, Ind.); and her loving dogs, Shaggy, Sidney, and Mosby.
Additional survivors include three nieces and five nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, with a funeral service at 6 p.m. Both will be at Hartley Funeral Home in the Cicero Chapel, located at 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero. You may send condolences at hartleyfuneralhomes.com.
