You can experience the Christmas story in a new way this season in Cicero.
The Cicero Seventh-day Adventist Church, 24445 State Road 19, is offering a free event with options for an indoor or outdoor experience of the original Christmas story, which they call the Journey to Bethlehem.
At 7 p.m. on opening night, Friday, Nov. 30, the presentation will be inside. From 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 and from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2 it will be an outdoor experience.
You will register/check in for your journey in the church. When your tour group is called, you’ll continue outdoors to an interactive Judaean village. You will then join your guide as your journey continues. You will visit the Magi as they follow the Star. You will go into the court of King Herod and bear witness to his evil surmising about the “new” King. You’ll see the faithful shepherds abiding in their fields by night and hear the angel choir as they announce with song the birth of their King. Then, you’ll visit the inn that had no room for Joseph and Mary. You’ll then continue to the stable and see the “babe wrapped in swaddling clothes.” And before your journey ends, you’ll also learn about Jesus’ life and ministry while He lived among us.
If you are not able to walk over uneven ground or stand for long times, we would suggest that you attend the indoor event on Friday evening. The outdoor event is not easily accessible via wheelchair and there will not be an electric cart option this year.
In the event that weather prevents the outdoor experiences, one or two indoor versions of the journey will be provided that evening. If you’ve registered for tickets, you will be informed via the email address you used to register if an outdoor experience has been canceled.
