Joseph “Joe” W. Grinstead, Jr.

May 16, 1977 – April 7, 2018

Joseph “Joe” W. Grinstead, Jr., 40, was a lifelong resident of Sheridan and a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and coach. Joe passed away on April 7, 2018. Joe was born on May 16, 1977 to Joseph and Phyllis “Maxine” (Jett) Grinstead.

Joe was an alumnus of the Sheridan High School graduating class of 1996. After graduating high school, Joe attended the University of Evansville where he received a degree in engineering and a minor in math. Joe graduated cum laude. Joe worked for American Structurepoint as a Civil Engineer. He was very dedicated and skilled in his role of management. Joe was a member of Sheridan Six Points Wesleyan Church where he grew in faith. It was his faith that raised his family. Joe was a very dedicated member of his community. He was the President of Sheridan Community Sports, where he also served as the youth baseball chair for several years. Joe coached his three sons in baseball, basketball and football as well as many other children. He shared his passion of youth sports by developing life lessons to the young children of Sheridan. Joe loved coaching, teaching and mentoring children. Joe donated his time with the Boone County 4-H and would spent countless hours in his barn with his three sons teaching them the responsibilities of caring for and showing pigs, lambs and horses. Joe and his family were equestrians and members of the American Quarter Horse Association. Joe was a member of the Indiana Gun Club and would compete in shooting competitions. His enjoyment of these competitions passed on to his three sons as they competed in 4-H shooting events.

Joe met the love of his life, Kristy (Burtron) Grinstead, in high school. He then married his high school sweetheart on October 21, 2000 at the Sheridan Bible Church. Together, they have three devoted sons; Evan, Hayden and Owen. Joe is survived by his parents, Joseph “Joe” Grinstead and Phyllis “Maxine” (Jett) Grinstead; and five siblings, Tina McMahon, Tara Ziegler, Patrick Grinstead, Lynn (Julie) Grinstead and Lyle Grinstead. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, two great-nephews and three great-nieces, along with his father- and mother-in-law, Carl and Elaine Burtron. Joe is survived by his brother-in-law, Brad (Megan) Burtron; sister-in-law, Kim (Scott) Sedwick and a niece and nephew. Joe also leaves behind many friends. Preceding Joe in death is his daughter, Allison Jane in 2003 and niece, Avery Burtron.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Sheridan Six Points Wesleyan Church, 1545 W. 226th St., Sheridan. Family and friends are invited to gather from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018 for calling. Rev. Steve Martin, assisted by Rev. Frank Campa and Rev. Harrell Wilson will officiate Joe’s service. Burial will follow at Spencer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Joe Grinstead Memorial Fund” in honor of Evan, Hayden and Owen’s future education at The Farmers Bank, 987 S.
