Jon Dara VanScyoc

November 21, 1946 – February 2, 2025

Jon Dara VanScyoc, 78, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025, in Fishers, surrounded by his loving family.

Jon was born on November 21, 1946, in Crawfordsville, Ind., and raised in Seymour, Ind. He graduated in 1968 from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa fraternity. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Indiana University Medical School in 1972 and served in the U.S. Army as a Captain from 1973 to 1975. He established his medical practice as a family physician in Noblesville in 1976 and retired in 2016. He was cherished by hundreds of patients and families.

Jon was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who shared 55 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Emalee (Brackemyre) VanScyoc. He is survived by Emalee and his two children, Wendy VanScyoc married to Philip Daravingas and Erik VanScyoc married to Erin (Jeter) VanScyoc; his grandchildren, Gavin VanScyoc and Alison VanScyoc; his siblings, Kris (VanScyoc) Deputy married to Dan Deputy, and Kent VanScyoc married to Jeannie (Cipolla) VanScyoc. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Marylin VanScyoc and his sister, Karin (VanScyoc) Greemann-Antle.

Jon had an exceptional intuition for diagnosing and treating his patients. He was named a Top Doctor in Indianapolis Monthly. When he was not tirelessly devoting his time to his patients, he enjoyed traveling across the U.S. and Europe, boating, cooking gourmet food, dancing, playing bridge, and playing golf. He had a boundless interest in history and reading. He always had a quiet, caring demeanor and a quick, dry humor that would light up the room. One of his biggest passions was music, from classical to classic rock.

Of all the things I love in life, music is the best.
The bass line, strong and steady, comforts me and gives me rest.
The humble harmony flows in close support.
It’s helpful by design.
The chorus is a familiar strain.
It’s familiar, and it’s fine.
The conductor puts it all together,
And makes it come alive.
Oh, the melody is so sweet and loved.

“ You Are My Music”
