October 15, 1940 – June 3, 2020
John William Bowen went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 3, 2020. John was born on October 15, 1940 in Fishers at the home of Fred and Kathleen (Hinshaw) Bowen, their firstborn of three sons. He grew up in Fishers helping his parents on the farm that they rented, working alongside his two younger brothers, Dan and Carl.
John loved to play games and sports, especially with his brothers. He played on the basketball team at Fishers High School, which he attended with his high school sweetheart and future wife, Judith Ann (Roudebush) Bowen, graduating in 1958. John attended Purdue, where he studied electrical engineering and served in the ROTC, graduating in 1962. John went on to serve two years in the Army at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama before eventually taking a job with RCA, where he worked for 45 years until retiring on November 11, 2011. John also served as an Elder at Cumberland Road Christian Church for many years.
John married Judy on September 22, 1961. After John’s service in Alabama, John and Judy moved back to Indiana. In 1971, after living in Fishers for a few years, they moved into an old farmhouse in Carmel, where they raised their five children.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy, and their five children, Connie (Bowen) Birk (Brian), Lynn (Bowen) Mafera (Tony), Scott Bowen (Renee), Greg Bowen (Sue), and Brad Bowen (Angela). Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
John always had a smile and encouraging word. He loved life, loved people, and loved his Savior.
Services will be held at noon on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, Fishers, with visitation from 10 a.m. to the time of service at the funeral home. Aaron Birk will officiate. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
