Dr. John McGoff has been elected to serve as head of the Indiana State Medical Association for 2017-2018. He was sworn in as president last month at the ISMA Convention in Indianapolis.
Dr. McGoff is a member of the Community Health Network medical staff. He has served on the board of directors and chaired the Emergency Department, the Emergency Department Quality Assurance Committee and the Bylaws Committee.
Prior to being elected as president, Dr. McGoff served in many leadership positions for the ISMA. This includes president-elect and speaker of the House of Delegates, the policy-making body of the ISMA.
He was also president of the Indianapolis Medical Society and served on the Indiana Medical Licensing Board.
Dr. McGoff is a retired brigadier general with the Indiana Air National Guard. His service included spending a year at Joint Base Balad. He was the director of emergency services at the base from 2008 to 2009.
Dr. McGoff has been active in both county and state government. He was the Marion County Coroner for seven years from 1997 through 2004. He lives in Lawrence Township.
Dr. McGoff earned his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine. He moved on to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia to complete his residency in emergency medicine.
