John Joseph Bowen, 73, died Tuesday, May 28, 2019, surrounded by his family and longtime friends. He was on vacation visiting friends in Spring Hill, Fla., when he became ill.
Originally from Indianapolis, he lived the past seven years in Kingman, Ariz., with his wife of 32 years, Jeannie Swineford Bowen.
After graduating from Shortridge High School and serving four years in the USAF, John joined the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, where is proudly served for 30 years. John’s No. 1 priority throughout his life was his fierce love and protection of family. He was always happy to fly home for a Bowen family party, special family occasions, or the annual Alzheimer’s Walk downtown which was so important to the Swineford family.
He is survived by his daughters, Julia Pedigo and Kelly Donahue, and three grandchildren, Eryx, Hayden and Liliana, all living in Indianapolis; his sister, Anne Marie Bowen Hart and brother, David Bowen, both of Fishers; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Mary Bowen, and brothers, Pat and Jim Bowen.
There will be a private family service at a later date.
