John Hampton “Jack” Chapman, 87, beloved husband, Dad, and Papaw, passed away peacefully, at home, on Friday, February 3, 2023. Jack was born at home in Marion County to Orville Thomas (O.T.) and Kathryn Lucille Chapman on January 31, 1936. He was a lifelong resident of Noblesville and graduated from Noblesville High School in 1954 where he was a four-year letterman in football.
On October 5, 1958, he married the love of his life, Mildred Maxine Mustin Chapman. Celebrating 64 years together this past fall, they raised four children and spent the last 30 years traveling and enjoying their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed raising miniature horses, gardening, and building. He never hesitated to help those in need and was a generous supporter of many Noblesville organizations over the years.
Jack served in the Indiana National Guard for 10 years and began his career as an electrician in the late 1950s. Together, with his wife Mildred, he owned and operated Chapman Electric, Gray Shield Insulation, and finally Chapman Electric Supply, Inc., serving Noblesville and Hamilton County for over 60 years. Jack served as president of the Noblesville Rotary Club and the Noblesville Babe Ruth Association. He coached his sons’ teams from Little League through Babe Ruth League, travelling throughout the Midwest and Ohio Valley with their all-star teams.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Tom and Joe Chapman.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; four children, Deb (and husband Johnny) Pritchard of Winters, Texas; David (and wife Debbie) Chapman of Noblesville; Doug (and wife Nancy) Chapman of Noblesville; and DeeAnna Chapman of Noblesville. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Marie (and husband Chad) Carlisle of Lubbock, Texas, Misty (and husband Stuart) Sutton of Canyon, Texas, Mandy (and husband Seth) Jeter of Shallowater, Texas, Cody (and wife Brittany) Pritchard of Bronte, Texas, Ryan (and wife Abbey) Chapman of Lafayette, Colby (and wife Audie) Pritchard of Winters, Texas, Coltyn (and wife Chelsea) Pritchard of Shallowater, Texas, Tyler (and wife Ashley) Chapman of Noblesville, and Corey (and wife Ashley) Pritchard of Winters, Texas. He is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are two sisters, Charmaine Carson of Carmel and Marilyn (Susie) Engle of Fishers; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Janet Mustin of Lebanon; several cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, in Noblesville. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2023. Services will be 2 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Randall & Roberts. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Those in Texas may choose to donate to the Winters Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Jack Chapman.
