John D. Cox, 89, Noblesville, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville. He was born on February 2, 1929, to Joe and Ethel (Sproles) Cox in Lee County, Va.
John was a proud Korean War Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient. He retired from Firestone Industrial Products and was a member and deacon of Victory Baptist Church. John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and also liked to bowl. For the past 20 years, he loved taking his wife and sisters-in-law to visit Pigeon Forge, Tenn. John’s home was central for Friday night family get-togethers.
He is survived by his wife, Lora (Roberts) Cox; sons, Gary (Pam) Cox and Mike (Jane) Cox; grandchildren, Lisa Scott, Jason (Lisa) Cox, Jeremy Cox, Kelli (Jeremy) Starkey, Tasha Ferguson, Amber (Steven) Taylor, Austin Smith and Shelby Smith; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Allan, Maryssa Cox, Jalen Cox, Chase Cox, Haven Starkey, Aiden Starkey, Kyndall Ferguson, Addyson Ferguson, Maddox Isaac and Payton Taylor; great-great-grandchild, Blayze; siblings, Doug Cox, Bill Cox and Mary Leveridge; special family members, Shirley Lawson, Loretta Mercer and Clarence Roberts; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Eula V., Louise and Annalee; and brothers, Elmer, Paul, Silas and Dan.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St., Noblesville. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the funeral home, with Pastor Darrell Jones officiating. Burial will be at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.
