December 18, 1952 – February 25, 2025
John Allen Klepfer, a humble and spirited soul, was born on December 18, 1952, in Lebanon, Ind., to Robert Klepfer and Opal (Michael) Harmon. John passed away on February 25, 2025.
He spent his life in the service of others, generously giving his time and energy to his family, friends, and community. His life was a testament to the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
John was a dedicated pressman, working tirelessly for the Indianapolis Newspapers until his retirement. He found joy in simple pleasures, such as tending to the lawns at the country club, playing the farming game on his computer, and following his hobbies of trains and motorcycles. His love for bowling was evident in his active participation in several leagues. John was also an avid Washington Redskins football fan. A proud and dedicated 50-year member of the Cicero American Legion, he served as Department Southern Vice Commander, Past District, and Past Post Commander. His commitment to service was further demonstrated in his 50-year membership in the Masonic Lodge, where he held the title of Past Master.
John is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Deborah Klepfer; his children, Jason and Courtney Klepfer; his granddaughters, Brooklyn Klepfer and Natalie Klackle-Klepfer; his great-grandson, Greysen Boisseau; his half-brothers, Jerry (Denise) and Gary Klepfer; his half-brother, Jay (Jennifer) Harmon; sister-in-law, Terry Klepfer; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Steve and Michael Klepfer.
A visitation for John will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Hartley Funeral Homes – Cicero, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero. This will be followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jodi Brown officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Legacy Foundation, The American Legion, Donation Processing, P.O. Box 1954, Indianapolis, IN 46206.
We encourage those who knew John to share their memories, stories, and photos on his memorial page. Despite our loss, let us remember that “Life is eternal, and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight” (Rossiter Worthington Raymond).
