Jillian Osswald, incoming Hamilton Heights High School Freshman was part of the Indiana Midwest Finest 13U team that won the AAU Under Armour Summer Slam tournament, which took place in late July at the Greensboro SportsPlex in Greensboro, N.C.
Osswald, a guard, is the only player from Hamilton County on the Indiana Midwest Finest team, playing with other girls from central and southern Indiana. Several college coaches were in attendance at the Summer Slam, which started on July 24.
The Indiana Midwest Finest team won three games that day, including one in overtime. On July 25, the team won its first game of the day to advance to the championship game. Indiana Midwest Finest beat Team Lady Wall of Raleigh, N.C. 75-69 in a competitive game, with lead changes happening on almost every basket. The Indiana Midwest Finest team made 27 of its 34 free throws. The team’s season record was 26-13.
Osswald played an outstanding game scoring 23 points, hitting 11 of 13 free throws, and was the second leading rebounder with eight. Osswald has been very busy training and traveling to play in tournaments located in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and North Carolina, and plans on giving her best when the basketball season starts later this year for the Lady Huskies.
Osswald credits her coach, Lee Larkins, for making her the player she is today. She feels blessed to contribute to her AAU team and looks forward to contributing to her high school team this fall. Larkins, has developed the girls on the team into basketball players who have excelled on and off the court.
