Jensen announces new Noblesville Police Chief

On Thursday, Noblesville Mayor-elect Chris Jensen has announced Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Captain John Mann will serve as Noblesville’s new police chief. He will begin serving on Jan. 1, 2020.

“John brings a lifetime of law enforcement experience at every level from the neighborhood patrol to command staff,” Jensen said. “I’m proud to have him leading our police department as we work to transform our approach to public safety to ensure Noblesville is one of the safest cities in the country to live, work, and raise a family.”

Captain Mann is a nearly 30-year veteran of the IMPD and currently serves as a Captain in the Downtown District, with experience including decade-long stints in operations and arson investigations. Alongside Jensen and Public Safety Director Chad Knecht, Mann will work to achieve administration goals of making a safer Noblesville through traditional crime prevention and facing next generation challenges of mental health and addiction treatment.

Mann currently serves as a Captain in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, assigned to the Downtown District. He began his career with IMPD in 1992 as a patrol officer after graduating from Indiana State University with a business degree.

He worked his way up the ranks, earning the rank of Sergeant in 2005 and Lieutenant in 2010 before his promotion to Captain in 2016. During his career with IMPD he has served as Commander for the Southeast District as well as an Executive Officer for the Chief of Police.

He was a member of the Indianapolis Police Department SCUBA team for 12 years, before its disbandment in 2006. He holds a Master’s Degree in Criminology from ISU and is also a 2013 graduate of the FBI National Academy. He is married with four daughters.

Way to go Mayor Jensen, now you have former IMPD officers as Public Safety Director and Police Chief. This is a real good way to show the men and women of the Noblesville Police Department that hard work and dedication will get them nowhere!

Amen to that Terry D Wade. O Great Bring IMPD and their culture to Noblesville. IMPD is no model law enforcement agency. Look at all the disciple problems they continuously have with officers. Quickly loosing confidence in mayor elect Jensen.

  3. why do we have to go to indianapolis for police personnel, when we have good people right here in noblesville or surrounding cities of Carmel, Westfield and Fishers

I’ve know John Mann for a good while. He will be a great asset to Noblesville. He is extremely community minded. Same with Chad Knecht. Great individual and natural leader. People may be concerned about former IMPD officers joining our community but rest assured we are getting two of their stars.

Noblesville P. D. had a great selection of dedicated, deserving candidates for the Position of Police Chief. For example, JOHN WILLIAMS IS HIGHLY DESERVING OF THIS POSITION. HE HAS HELD EVERY RANK IN THE DEPARTMENT, A GRADUATE OF THE FBI ACADEMY, HELD NUMEROUS POSITIONS WITHIN THE COMMAND STRUCTURE OF NPD, HAS OVER 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE EXCLUSIVELY WITH NPD, IN ADDITION TO BEING AN ATTORNEY! And, “Mayor” Jensen, you passed over this fine officer for IPD’s Captain!!!!!!
