Another game, another buzzer-beating basket for Carmel.
The Class 4A No. 10 Greyhounds beat Lawrence North 52-51 in double overtime in a Thursday Metropolitan Conference showdown at the Eric Clark Activity Center. Cole Jenkins did the honors this time, as his 3-point shot with the clock running down lifted Carmel to victory.
The ‘Hounds had to come back to get this one, as they trailed 35-25 at halftime. Carmel worked its way back into the game by outscoring the Wildcats 15-7 in the third, then knotted the score at 46-all at the end of regulation. Neither team scored in the first overtime.
Andrew Owens led the Greyhounds’ scoring with 15 points, with Jenkins adding 14. Jenkins was a perfect 4-for-4 in 3-point shooting, with Owens throwing in three triples.
John Michael Mulloy reached double-double status with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He also blocked two shots. Jalen Whack pulled five rebounds.
Carmel is now 5-1 in the MIC, behind only Warren Central. The Warriors are 5-0 and will play Carmel on Feb. 16.
Overall, the ‘Hounds are 12-5. They are off until Friday, Feb. 9, when they travel to Hamilton Southeastern.
