Jeffrey “Jeff” Royal Hansen

d. April 5, 2025

Jeffrey “Jeff” Royal Hansen, 63, Fishers, passed away on April 5, 2025, in Indianapolis.

Born to Dr. Thomas and Ruth Hansen, Jeff grew up in Janesville, Wis. After earning his engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jeff moved to Indianapolis in 1985 to begin his career at Naval Avionics. In 1996, he joined Eli Lilly and Company, where he applied his expertise in IT business roles focused on mergers and acquisitions. In 1998, Jeff graduated from Butler University with a Master of Business Administration.

Jeff was a devoted and fun-loving husband to Julie, whom he met at the University of Wisconsin and married in 1986, and treasured being a dad to their sons, Mitchell (Alie Dangar) and Ryan (Kendall Swartzell), who survive him. He also loved and is survived by his siblings, Holly (Bruce) Olson and David Hansen; father-in-law, Norman “Tom” Kranzusch (Bonnie Johnson); brother-in-law, Scott Kranzusch (John Laabs); sister-in-law, Kari (Michael) Fischer; nieces and nephews, Callie Hansen, Taylor Hansen (Evan Brown), Parker (Caitlin) Olson, Macneil Olson, Anders Olson, Taylor (Kraig) Kadletz, David Fischer, and Erin Fischer; dear family friend, Catherine Byers; and many beloved cousins and friends. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Thomas and Ruth Hansen; mother-in-law, Marilyn Kranzusch; godparents, Reverend Floyd and Lois Grothman; and niece, Jessica Hansen.

Jeff cherished his friendships, including those with his childhood neighborhood buddies; connections made while coaching Mitch and Ryan in Fishers sports leagues; the Wisconsin vs. Purdue football game gang; and several Eli Lilly colleagues who formed close bonds over the years while traveling the world together on projects for Lilly. Jeff and Julie also greatly enjoyed their close circle of neighborhood friends and always looked forward to the laughter of their regular get-togethers.

A passionate fan of the Green Bay Packers, UW Badgers, Chicago Cubs, the Indy 500, and the Indianapolis Colts and Pacers, Jeff loved sports, whether watching or playing. He especially enjoyed coaching his sons during their early years in baseball, basketball, and soccer. Jeff also had a love for music, particularly Dave Matthews Band, Rush, and U2, and he and Julie danced through dozens of their concerts and many others over the years. Jeff’s enthusiasm for the Scorpions Unplugged Live in Athens DVD was unwavering, routinely blasting it throughout the house at a volume “up to 11.”

Jeff’s family and friends are losing a family man, generous friend, and respected colleague and business leader. He will be dearly missed and remembered most for his sense of humor, kindness and patience, and steadiness in the face of challenges. Julie will also especially miss his sweet impish smile that caught her eye on the day they met.

Services for Jeff will be held at noon on Saturday, April 12, 2025, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, Fishers, with Reverend Libby Davis Manning officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider toasting Jeff with your favorite beverage or donating to your favorite youth sports league.
