March 23, 1999 – January 2, 2023
Jarred William Freeman was born in Indiana on March 23, 1999.
He was a loving, quick-into-everything infant. He was a mathematically gifted, spontaneous, impulsive child who never made the same mistake twice. He was an overly anxious, frustrated teen/young adult fighting to find purpose and fulfillment. He wrestled with identity and purpose all the time, yet always wanted to comply, be included, make a difference, be remembered, and bring laughter to others. He was a unique, one-of-a-kind breed.
Over the last several days, we’ve received numerous texts from friends with one common theme – Jarred had the biggest f…ing heart and would do anything for anyone!
Jarred was a daredevil, a water boy, and extremely compassionate. He loved music, played piano, drums, guitar, he’d beat on anything, and loved jamming to Justin Bieber songs on the radio with his favorite boss! He always wanted to be surrounded by friends or with family.
As Jarred moved through each era of his life, he explored a large variety of fashion trends (Scooby-Doo, soccer, skateboard, Husker, tough guy, model, party animal, wear all my jewelry at once, Champion, to name a few). He met many of you along the way.
The last six months was the intentional era. He went off to California to get help, came home with a deeper love for family, a drive to better himself, and a desire to draw really close to family and a few friends. He took classes and got certified nationally as a Peer Recovery Specialist and began work in a Treatment Center. In his words, he wanted to do it so he could help others not have to suffer like he has. He intentionally spent time with family, drawing closer to us, sharing more of himself, his desires, his dreams, his anxiety, and his pains. He bonded with Erica, Quentin, and Rex in ways he never had before.
Yet, the one consistency in his life was his love of family and foundation of faith. His first tattoo was “Family”, his second a cross. He put the Chinese symbol “faith” on his side, and a music symbol behind his ear before adding flowers and a Koi fish to his arms.
It all ended on the morning of December 24, 30 minutes before a car ride to Michigan to celebrate Christmas. He fought for nine days before he was carried home to heaven. Yet, sign after sign in the hospital let us know he was surrounded by angels and comforted before beautifully being carried across the finish line on January 2, 2023, at 11:11 a.m. There is no doubt he is with God! After 23.5 years, we proudly watched him march into heaven as our little drummer boy.
He will not be forgotten.
At his core, Jarred always gave to those around him with everything he could. To continue his giving spirit, family asks that, in lieu of flowers, you donate to Bearbones Movement, a non-profit close to Jarred’s heart, that fosters love, safety, and growth for young adults and exposes them to Christian community. Donations can be sent directly through their donation page, tinyurl.com/BearbonesMovementDonation.
He is survived by his parents, Howard and Mary Pat Freeman; sister, Erica (Quentin) Swaim; nephew, Rex William Swaim; grandparents, William & Joyce Freeman; and numerous extended family members.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, Noblesville. A memorial service for only family and close friends will be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Corey Shonborn officiating. Burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Westfield at a later date.
