For many people, getting from one location to another without having a car is a really big deal, and getting everything from food to medicine can be an overwhelming challenge. Fortunately, Hamilton County Express (HCE) Public Transit and Riverview Health Rides are available to assist county residents with their travel needs. Operated by Janus, both transportation services provide a shared ride origin-to-destination service with wheelchair accessible buses.
HCE, in partnership with Hamilton County, has been providing transportation to Hamilton County residents within the county and to several IndyGo bus stops in Marion County since 2007. Rides can be requested up to two weeks in advance and a 24-hour advance notice is required. Fares cost $3 one way. You have probably seen the buses traveling throughout Hamilton County as the fleet of 23 HCE buses provided 62,346 trips in 2018.
Riverview Health Rides provides transportation to medical appointments at Riverview Health locations. Fares are $5 with return trip included. The service is provided in partnership with Riverview Health.
Recently, one of the HCE reservationists received a phone call from a first-time rider who could not get to work because her truck broke down. Not knowing where to turn, she called HCE and was able to get to her job by riding a bus. Another community member had a dental emergency and needed a ride to her dentist. Within a short period of time, HCE was able to provide the needed transportation to the dentist.
