Janus Developmental Services’ clients made a trip to Westfield Washington Township’s MacGregor Park last week to replace the stolen ornaments on the famous evergreen Christmas tree at the park.
For nearly a decade, the tree has housed ornaments year-long and individuals have always been welcomed to place ornaments of their choice on the tree. Late last year, all the ornaments were stolen and the tree remained bare.
“The amazing folks at Janus learned about the stolen ornaments and they felt the desire to help,” Westfield Washington Township Trustee Danielle Carey Tolan said. “They sprang into action and created homemade ornaments and redecorated the tree so the community once again can enjoy this park asset. We are so grateful for their efforts.”
MacGregor Park opened in 2004, and that year, a park patron placed a single ornament on the tree. As the tree has grown over the years, so have the ornaments, and it has become a community landmark. Westfield Washington Township encourages the use of natural elements in the ornaments and will have twine available on site to hang ornaments by Jan. 15. Community participation is encouraged.
