James Lee Bays, 78, Bloomington, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born on November 23, 1943, to Colly and Lillian (Stafford) Bays in Noblesville.
Jim was a 1963 graduate of Noblesville High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as an artillery engineer. He worked as a millwright, retiring from International Harvester and National Starch & Chemical. He enjoyed welding and working in shops. Most of all, Jim loved his family.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Louise Bays; son, James C. (Jill) Bays; daughter, Olivia L. Bays; sister, Marjorie (Clayton) Briggs; grandchildren, Orin C. Bays, Amos H. Bays, Gwyneth Harp and Logan Harp; several nieces and nephews; and his cat, Polly.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his siblings, JC Bays, Judith B. Branham, Virginia L. Bays, and Joe Tom Bays; and his daughter, Andrea Don Bays.
Visitation and services will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St., Noblesville. Visitation will take place from 1 to 3 p.m., Masonic Services at 3 p.m., and Funeral Services with military honors to follow.
