Jake Gilbert has officially announced that he is running for public office in Westfield. He will run for Westfield City Council District 2 in the 2019 election.
Gilbert says it’s always been a dream of his to run for public office. He added, “This has been on my heart for a long time. I have become so passionate about our community that I am compelled to run and the timing is perfect.”
“My pledge to this community is to serve with transparency, honesty, integrity and fairness,” Gilbert said. “I love Westfield and serving on the City Council would be a great opportunity to give back to the people who have done so much for me.”
Gilbert has immersed himself in the Westfield community. He currently serves on the Westfield Washington Schools Wellness Committee, the Westfield Wellbeing Coalition, the Sports Capital of America Board and the Westfield Teachers Association. Gilbert has sponsored or supported numerous charities and community organizations, including Young Life, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Impact, Open Doors, Westfield Youth Assistance Program, Westfield Youth Sports Incorporated, Indiana Blood Center, Special Olympics, Opioid Awareness, Teen Suicide Awareness, Habitat for Humanity, Hamilton County Cancer Services, Indiana Women In Need, Relay for Life, Wounded Warriors, the Red Cross, Three Angels, Project Impact Mentoring and Kids Against Hunger.
Gilbert says his priorities are his faith, families and schools: “I am running for City Council because I am called to do so. Servant leadership, trust and transparency will be critical for me. I will use principle-driven decisions to navigate the growth of our residential and business community. Westfield is an amazing place for families. We must never sacrifice that. Jobs, public safety, low taxes, services, great neighborhoods and amenities all serve families. Our schools are a vital part of our community. As someone who actually works in a classroom, I know I can help the cooperation and efficiency between our schools and government.”
At Westfield High School, Gilbert serves as the Dean of Wellness and has taught U.S. Government and Leadership classes. He is in charge of the Freshmen Mentor Program and Social Emotional Learning for the High School. In his current role, Gilbert helps kids discover their passions and purpose, grow their character-based skills and connect to caring adults and peers. As a football coach, Gilbert was a finalist for National Coach of the Year in 2017 and was named Indiana Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2016 after leading his team to the State Championship game in both of those years.
Gilbert and his family moved to Westfield on July 28, 2011. He and his wife, Christina, have been married for 18 years. They have three sons: Logan (15), Jackson (13) and Tyson (11). Christina works for two locally-owned businesses. The Gilberts are active members of the Westfield Campus of Northview Christian Church.
