Dear Editor,
As a local business owner and resident of Jackson Township and the Hamilton Heights School District, I would like to express my opinion and reason for voicing support for Amy Pascoe and Nicole Duncan for Jackson Township Board. During a public meeting regarding the dissolution of the Jackson Fire Territory, current Board Member Glen Schwartz challenged residents to vote him out if they were unhappy with him. I will cast my vote to do just that.
I have lived in Jackson Township, Atlanta, for approximately 11 years and have seen the way our community has been treated. It is as if we are not as important as the other communities.
I came to know Pascoe and Duncan during the primary election process and learned how much the entire township is their passion, not just certain communities within it, as the current board members have shown. One Board Member, Jeff Roberts, publicly admitted to making derogatory comments about the intelligence of Atlanta and Arcadia residents. Interestingly enough, Mr. Roberts holds an Atlanta address himself.
This also leads to the reason I am not able to support Mr. Robert’s wife, Beth Roberts, for Hamilton Heights School Board. If she agrees with her husband’s rude comments, do we want that type of opinionated person overseeing the education of our future leaders?
Without a doubt, our best option for school board is Julie Davis. She is an educator and a compassionate person. Mrs. Davis is respected and supported by so many students and staff members she has influenced throughout her teaching career. Her decades of experience with our school corporation will be an asset to the board.
We made positive changes for our community in the primary election. Let’s do it again on Nov. 6.
Jai M. Cook
Jackson Township
I do not know Jai Cook other than he is the husband of the candidate for Jackson Township Trustee. It is a shame I have never met Mr. Cook, as he may be surprised that I am an independent, creative thinker who simply wants to serve the Jackson Township community. I am fan of Julie Davis and David Martin, both worthy candidates would would serve our school well, as would I. Mrs. Cook will likely work with my husband in the new term to best serve our Township. I will assume that Robyn is a more critical thinker with more decorum and open-minded than this letter makes her husband appear to be and I hope she will serve our Township well. My husband and I do share many ideals, including great pride in the accomplishments our Township Fire Department has completed to become the professional department it is today, which occurred while Jeff has served on the Township Board. Thanks for sharing your unsolicited opinion of someone you do not know, and am curious why this letter would ever be printed.
Appreciate this information.
