Ivy Tech Community College is partnering with Venture Logistics LLC in Indianapolis to deliver commercial driver’s license (CDL) training. This partnership was facilitated by Conexus Indiana.
This program provides comprehensive classroom and behind-the-wheel training. Students are equipped with all basic skills and knowledge needed to pass the CDL Skills Test.
“Safe drivers are Venture Logistics’ most valuable resource. By partnering with Ivy Tech Community College, we will be able to give men and women the comprehensive training needed to realize a career that will provide opportunity and stability for them and their families,” said Greg Eddy, president of Venture Logistics LLC.

“Partnerships like this one between industry and education, to address a critical need, are exactly what is needed to solve the workforce shortage in Indiana,” said Aaron Baute, vice president for Business, Logistics and Supply Chain at Ivy Tech Community College.
Class A CDL holders are able to operate commercial vehicles in and outside of Indiana, with a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more. These include tractor-trailer, livestock carriers, box trucks, dump trucks, flatbeds and package vans. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national average wage of a truck driver is $44,500.
The training, which is offered onsite at Venture Logistics, can be completed in four weeks. Classes start weekly. The cost is $3,500, but funding is available from INTraining, EmployIndy and WorkOne for those who are eligible. Ivy Tech provides job placement assistance.
