It’s almost May
Thursday marked the unofficial start to the 2023 track activities for the Indianapolis 500 with the first of two consecutive days of open testing. Unfortunately, rain canceled Day 2 of testing, but drivers and teams were given extended hours on Thursday.
Topping the speed charts was two-time IndyCar Champion and Nashville native Josef Newgarden. Recording the second-fastest time was Hamilton County native Conor Daly, who was less than four hundredths of a second slower than Newgarden. Could this be Conor Daly’s year? He finished sixth last year and led 40 laps while finishing 13th in 2021. If he continues to build on his success, Daly has a legitimate shot.
As a tribute to the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500, the month of May will be exclusively IndyCar content and will feature stories about the history of the track and the iconic race.
