Invest Hamilton County, Ivy Tech & Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office partner on InvestOnward education program

Invest Hamilton County, along with Ivy Tech Hamilton County and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, recently launched the Educational Empowerment Program, a forward-thinking initiative designed to support inmates at the Hamilton County Jail in their reentry journey.

This six-week program focuses on equipping participants with personal, professional, and career development skills, setting them on a path toward success upon release.

Each class session is structured to address critical areas of career development including resume building, interviewing, and employability skills. Upon completion of this program, participants earn the equivalent one college credit hour to apply to an Ivy Tech educational pathway of their choice. The program is designed not only to impart knowledge but to inspire a mindset shift, helping inmates envision a future filled with possibility.

“Education is more than a means to an end; it’s a gateway to hope, purpose, and transformation,” said Robin Chaddock, instructor for the education empowerment class. “My goal is to provide a safe space for learners to explore their potential and take actionable steps toward a brighter future.”

This program is funded by Invest Hamilton County with support from community partners, including the Hamilton County Community Foundation, Hamilton County Tourism, and Hamilton County Government.

Ivy Tech’s mission to provide affordable and accessible education to all is met by fostering confidence, resilience, and readiness in the participants.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office’s willingness to offer this program displays its dedication to rehabilitation and community well-being. Community volunteers also play a key role, guiding participants through the Career Coach and Resume Builder tools housed on the Invest Hamilton County website.

This combination of funding, volunteer effort, and community support underscores a shared commitment to addressing the systemic challenges faced by individuals in the criminal justice system, promoting rehabilitation over recidivism.
