Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch addressing the Hamilton County Republican Fall Dinner, hit familiar themes for GOP speakers on the hustings this year. She said Indiana’s financial position is strong and the economy is thriving under the administration of Governor Eric Holcomb.
She also touted progress in education “so important to the future of our state.” And, she called attention to Indiana’s red flag law, which is now gaining acceptance in other states as well as in the U.S. Congress.
The law allows police to take firearms from a person who shows signs of endangering themselves or others. The firearms can be returned to owners only after a court determines no threat to the public or the owner exists.
More than 300 partisans attended the dinner at the 502 East Event Center in Carmel. It was hosted by the county Republican Central Committee. The overall message of the evening was the importance of getting voters to participate in the upcoming off-year municipal election, as stressed repeatedly by Chairwoman Laura Campbell.
Municipal elections in Hamilton County are usually a mere formality since Democrats often fail to field candidates for city or town office. But, this year there is opposition in a number of races for city council seats in Fishers, Carmel, Noblesville and Westfield.
Most county and municipal officeholders and candidates attended the dinner. Major party contributors were also present and recognized.
And, for the first time, a group of high school Young Republicans were present.
